Limitations: Scholarships by nomination only for private high school education at specific boarding schools to residents of the greater Newark, NJ, area. Students currently in the seventh grade who attend public, private, or parochial schools are eligible.

Program description:
Wight Scholarship Program: To qualify, students must maintain a "B" average and score above grade level in standardized tests in reading, language, and math. Scholars are expected to complete 20 hours of community service annually in the greater Newark area. All finalists must compete in STEP, a 14-month enrichment program taught by Wight Foundation alumni, which prepares them for the boarding school experience. The following boarding schools participate in the program: Blair Academy, NJ; Canterbury School, CT; Cheshire Academy, CT; Episcopal High School, VA; George School, PA; Hill School, PA; Kent School, CT; Lawrenceville School, NJ; Marvelwood School, CT; Miss Porter's School, CT; Peddie School, NJ; Perkiomen School, PA; Phillip Exeter Academy, NH; Purnell School, NJ; Solebury School, PA; South Kent School, CT; St. Andrew's School, DE; St. Paul's School, NH; St. Timothy's School, MD; Stoneleigh-Burnham School, MA; Taft School, CT; Trinity-Pawling School, NY; Westminster School, CT; Westover School, CT; Westtown School, PA.
